In western Mani, the rugged terrain and the raw materiality of the land became the starting point for the design of three holiday residences. Architecture was not conceived as an autonomous structure added onto the ground, but as an organic extension of the landscape itself. The sloping site and its western orientation defined the central idea of the composition: volumes that break into levels, forming artificial “terraces” that follow the logic of the dry stone walls and integrate naturally into the hillside.
The cubic stone volumes recall the typology of the traditional Mani towers, while the large openings, the wooden shading elements and the metal structures introduce a contemporary dimension, open to light and horizon.
The large pergola at the pool level acts as a natural extension of the stone volume, shaping a semi-outdoor space that unifies the interior with the horizon. Here, life unfolds frontally towards the sea and the sunset, turning daily living into an experience open to light and water.
The accessible rooftops are not only places of observation, but also planted surfaces with local species that restore the natural continuity of the slope. In this way, the roofs transform into platforms for pause and movement, offering multiple viewpoints towards the sky and the sea.
Architecture becomes embedded in the landscape, functioning as its natural continuation. It draws from the memory of the place — the stone, the clear volumes, the light of Mani — and reinterprets them with contemporary clarity, creating a way of living deeply tied to the landscape yet attuned to modern life.
